Angus Taylor (born 30 September 1966) is an Australian politician serving as Energy Minister in the Morrison Government. A Liberal Member of the Australian House of Representatives, he represents the people the Southern Highlands and Southern Tablelands in the Division of Hume. Taylor's family has deep roots in the region, and "comes from a long line of innovators" — in both agriculture and energy. He spent 20 years consulting in agribusiness and resources where he earned praise for his “ability to bring intellectual integrity to complex issues.” However, on becoming a Cabinet Minister he has been heavily criticised by political opponents in both Parliament and the media for being “pig-headed” “hard-right” and “an anti-renewable ideologue.” Taylor says he is "all for renewable energy" yet is critical of wind turbine subsidies because they are "crowding out" the more cost-effective means of carbon abatement. Instead, Taylor has backed over 100 newer energy projects such as bioenergy distributed energy microgrids Snowy Hydro 2.0 and hydrogen energy. The approach follows his admiration for "experimentation and the value of persistence" — traits he sees in Australian entrepreneurs generally and wants to encourage in the energy sector:
