Dr Barry Lubetkin (born 1944) is the Director and founder of The Institute For Behavior Therapy in New York City. He is Board certified in both Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Psychology. He is the author of numerous academic and popular articles as well as two popular self-help books: "Bailing Out"and "Why Do I Need You to Love Me in Order to Like Myself". He also has recorded the popular insomnia treatment CD set "Dr. Barry's Sound Asleep." The Institute for Behavior Therapy is the oldest private Cognitive Behavior Therapy center in the United States founded in 1971. It is especially noteworthy that Dr Lubetkin and Dr Steven Fishman boldly opened the Institute in New York City, the center of Psychoanalytic thinking, when Behavior Therapists were seen as "symptom removers", not comprehensive practitioners. Over the last decades, of course, that naiive perspective has radically changed. Many hundreds of Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Social Workers have received training at the Institute and have gone on to become leaders in Behavior Therapy. Over 20,000 patients have received treatment at the Institute.
