About

edit

Catherine D. DeAngelis, MD, is the first woman and the first pediatrician to become editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). She has also edited several additional medical journals. Before assuming the editor's position at JAMA in 2000, DeAngelis was a professor and Vice Dean of Faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She became embroiled in a controversy for allegedly applying improper pressure to a scientist who accused JAMA of not properly investigating a conflict of interest for an article published in JAMA, then allegedly calling him "a nobody and a nothing" and then attempting to institute a policy under which anyone asserting that study authors have failed to disclose conflicts of interest must keep the matter confidential until JAMA investigates.
