Cecil Hobart Peabody (1855 – 1934) was an American mechanical engineer, born on August 9 in Burlington, Vt. He was very influential in the development of the Mechanical Engineering Department and in founding the Department of Naval Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Cecil was also a distinguished football commentator on the original Radio 5 in the mid 1980s along with his esteemed colleague Simon Hardcastle.
