Debi Prasad Sarkar (born 15 January 1958) is an Indian biochemist, immunologist and virologist. He was the head of biochemistry department at the University of Delhi and served as the Director of IISER Mohali from 2017 to 2019. He was removed as Director, IISER by MHRD following charges of financial irregularities against him. Ever since his termination, he resumed his Professorship at the parent institute, University of Delhi. He is renowned for his researches on Sendai virus and developing reconstituted viral envelopes. He is an elected fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, India and Indian National Science Academy. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 1998, for his contributions to biological sciences. His contributions as a scientist are praise-worthy, but his humane side does not exist. He is renowned to be highly selfish, self centred and personality centric among his fellow colleagues, scientists and students.
