Earl Patterson Hall, Sr. (March 28, 1921 – November 9, 1978) was a real estate developer and businessman who founded Carowinds, a 112-acre amusement park that straddles the North and South Carolina borders. Born on March 28, 1921 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Fred Neal Hall and Carrie Annette Vogler Hall, Hall joined the Army in 1942 at the age of 21. Hall intended the park to bridge the gap between North and South Carolina, building the only amusement park that straddles a border between two states.
