Éliphas Lévi Zahed, born Alphonse Louis Constant (8 February 1810 – 31 May 1875), was a French sage, poet, and author of more than twenty books about magic, kabbalah, alchemical studies, and occultism. Considered the greatest occultist of the nineteenth century, he followed the ecclesiastical career in the Catholic Church until, with a particularly great struggle, at the age of 26, he quit the priestly path. Only much later in his life, at the age of 40, did he attain the knowledge of the occult, also becoming a ceremonial magician.
