Everette James served as the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health from 2008 to 2010 during which time he helped to implement a statewide smoking ban, a program to eliminate hospital-acquired infections, and the creation of stringent nutrition and physical education standards in Pennsylvania's public schools. He resigned to take the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Policy and Planning at the University of Pittsburgh effective October 1, 2010. He will also be a Professor of Health Policy and Management at university's Graduate School of Public Health where he will teach, advise students, and collaborate in research, as well as advise the university on legal issues related to health reform.
