George W. Grantham (born May 11, 1941) is an American economist and historian of economic thought. He received his M.A. and PhD('69) in economics from Yale University, where he became good friends with Paul Krugman. He was a prominent teacher of economics at McGill University from 1969 to 2009. His contribution to economics focused mainly on the development of the French economy in the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly the nature of agricultural change and interactions between agricultural and industrial growth. He has written over 300 economic articles, mainly on the history of agriculture from an economy perspective, the French economy, and American economic history. Grantham is trilingual, and speaks English, French and German.
