Giani Gurbachan Singh is the Jathedar of Akal Takht, one of the highest Sikh leaders. He was born at Chakk Baja in Muktsar District on April 6, 1948. He joined Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) as Sewadar at Mukatsar. He served 36 years at SGPC beginning in 1972 and became head priest at Amritsar before becoming Jathedar on 6 August 2008. He is the 24th Jathedar since the existence of SGPC in 1920.
