Helmut Fickel (27 November 1921 – 6 April 2005) was a highly decorated Oberleutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. During his career he flew 800 missions. Helmut Fickel was captured by British troops in May 1945.
