James Arthur "Jim" Payne (1894 in Highland Mills, NY – June 12, 1968 in Highland Mills, New York USA) was a fly rod maker and designer; son of E.F. Payne and owner of the Payne Rod Co.. He designed and built bamboo fly rods for almost seven decades, having been involved in rodmaking since early childhood. His rods are prized by fishermen and collectors. Experts consider Jim to be one of the great designers and bamboo rodmakers in the history of fly fishing.
