James Wiley Nielsen is an American politician from California currently serving in the California State Senate representing the 4th district. He is a Republican. Nielsen served on the Yolo County Republican Committee before first winning election to the California State Senate in 1978 and then served until 1990. Later, Nielsen also served in the California State Assembly from 2009-2012 and then returned to the Senate in a 2013 special election.
