John Davies (Siôn Gymro) (1804 - 1884) was a Welsh Independent minister. He was born in Cardiganshire, and grew up on his parents farm, 'Castell-y-geifr'. Until the age of 7 he was educated mainly by his father, he then began attending lessons at Thomas Phillips' school in Neuadd-lwyd. It was whilst at Neuadd-lwyd School, in 1819, that he began to preach. In 1822 he moved to study at the Independent Academy in Newtown, where he was taught elements of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Syriac, and also improved his knowledge of Greek, Latin, and divinity. On completing his studies, he was invited, on six months probation, to preside at Glandŵr, Pembrokeshire, and was subsequently ordained in March 1827. In 1829, he founded Moriah church, Llanwinio, Carmarthenshire, but also continued with his duties at Glandŵr until 1863.
