John Wesley Gilbert (July 6, 1863 – November 18, 1923) was an American archaeologist, educator, and Methodist missionary to the Congo. Gilbert was the first graduate of Paine College, the first African-American professor of that school, and the first African-American to receive an advanced degree from Brown University.
