About

edit

Larry Edward Smith, (born 27 October 1945) is a Canadian musician, composer, recording artist, and computer programming expert. He studied Engineering Science at the University of Toronto where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree specializing in Aerospace Engineering. In 1970 the 24-year-old Smith decided he preferred music to engineering and joined the Canadian rock band Lighthouse, a rock group that sold millions of records and earned three Juno Awards as one of Canada’s leading pop bands. Smith composed, arranged and sang Old Man from the One Fine Morning gold album, as well as composing and co-composing various other songs for the group. Starting out on valve trombone with Lighthouse, he later moved to trumpet, and then to keyboards when Paul Hoffert left the band. Smith also sang backup vocals on most of the recordings.
