About

edit

Leon Schwartz (1901–1989) was a klezmer and classical music violinist who was born in Karapchiv, Ukrainian Bukovina and lived most of his life in New York City. He taught and acted as mentor to key klezmer revivalist Michael Alpert as well as Alicia Svigals. Schwartz is reputed to have composed "Dem Rebns Nign" - a violin solo with accompaniment - according to Marek Kovnatskiyy, who said he learned the piece from Michael Alpert.
