Mahmoud Seraji (Persian ????? ?????), aka, M. S. Shahed, the contemporary Persian poet was born on August 23, 1934 in the small town of Astara by the Caspian Sea. According to the biography on his site, Seraji started writing poetry at the age of nine. He spent most of his early professional career working for the government of the Shah at the Ministry of Agriculture before earning his law degree from the University of Tehran and starting his own practice. Seraji lived in Iran until 2009, and moved to the United States to be near his family, who had left Iran after the Islamic revolution in 1979. Mahmouod Seraji currently lives in the San Francisco Bay area near his son, Mahbod Seraji, the author of Rooftops of Tehran.
