About

edit

Martin Gjonima (c. 1652 - d. 1719) was an Albanian Catholic Franciscan friar in the monastery of st. Sebastian in Cape of Rodon. He was from the Gjonimi (Gjorëm) family of Kurbini. In 1703 a meeting of Catholic leaders was held in Lezhe, led by Vincenzo Zmajevic, which Gjonima took part of. In 1705 a letter was sent to Rome explaining how Gjonima was the only talented Albanian Catholic leader in all of the surrounding area. Gjonima died in 1719 and is buried in the church of Shen Ndoi in Cape of Rodon. He is a venerated figure amongst Albanians.
