Matthew Carter (born 1 October 1937 in London) is a type designer and the son of the English typographer Harry Carter (1901–1982). He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. He designed the classic web fonts Verdana and Georgia, as well as other designs including Bell Centennial, Miller and Tahoma. In 2010, he was named a MacArthur Fellow.
