Michael Patrick Forbes (born July 16, 1952) is an American former politician from the state of New York. Forbes represented a Long Island district in the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001, first as a Republican (until 1999) and then as a Democrat. He was an influential member of the House Appropriations Committee throughout his tenure on Capitol Hill. Forbes left Congress after being defeated in the 2000 Democratic primary election for having remained steadfast in his pro-life beliefs. He subsequently moved to Texas, where he has since devoted his life to service in his Roman Catholic Church. In 2013, he was ordained a permanent deacon by His Excellency, Bishop Joe S. Vasquez.
