Patrick Joseph Murphy (born August 24, 1959) was the Iowa State Representative from the 99th District and won the Democratic nomination in a five-way Democratic Primary to replace former Congressmen Bruce Braley, who ran for the US Senate. Pat is a former Speaker of the Iowa House. He also previously served as Minority Leader from 2003-07. Murphy is a Democrat and had served in the Iowa House since winning a special election in 1989. He received his BA from Loras College.
