Roderick T. Sawyer (born April 12, 1963) is the alderman of the 6th ward of the City of Chicago, Illinois. Sawyer is the son of the late Chicago mayor Eugene Sawyer. He was first elected in 2011 after narrowly defeating incumbent Freddrenna Lyle, and is currently serving his third term. He has two children, Sydni and Roderick, Jr. Sawyer grew up in the 6th ward on the south side of Chicago. He is a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep (class of 1981). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from DePaul University, and a Juris Doctorate from the Chicago Kent College of Law. Sawyer is Chairman of the Health and Human Relations Committee, a member of the Progressive Reform Caucus, and the former Chairman of the African American Caucus.
