Georgia Nugent is the current president of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Princeton University from which she graduated cum laude in 1973 . She then attended Cornell University and received a Ph.D in classics. After earning her Ph.D taught at Swarthmore College and Brown University before returning to Princeton as a professor in 1995. She became Kenyon College's 24th president in 2003 . As president she has overseen the construction of the $70 million dollar Kenyon Athletic Center (KAC), and the largest capital campaign in the college's 185-year history. In recent years President Nugent has been an outspoken supporter of the Amethyst Initiative, which she co-authored with 8 other presidents of American colleges and universities . She is commonly referred to as "the Nuge" and encourages the school bookstore to display life-sized posters of her as well as sell t-shirts spreading her nickname.
