About

edit

Saint Margaret of England (died 1192) was born in Hungary to an Englishwoman who was related to Saint Thomas of Canterbury. Margaret took her mother to Jerusalem and Bethlehem where they lived austere lives of penance. Her mother died in Israel but Margaret continued to make pilgrimages to Monserrat, Spain and Le Puy-en-Velay, France before settling down as a Cistercian nun in Sauve Benite where she died. Miracles were reported at her tomb and it became a pilgrimage site. St Margaret's feast day is 3 February.
