Sergey Mikhaylovich Solovyov (Soloviev, Solovyev; Russian: Серге́й Миха́йлович Соловьёв) (17 May [O.S. 5 May] 1820, in Moscow – 16 April [O.S. 4 April] 1879, in Moscow) was one of the greatest Russian historians whose influence on the next generation of Russian historians (Vasily Klyuchevsky, Dmitry Ilovaisky, Sergey Platonov) was paramount. His son Vladimir Solovyov was one of the most influential Russian philosophers. His older son Vsevolod Solovyov was a historical novelist. His youngest child, and daughter, Polyxena Solovyova was a noted poet and illustrator.
