William L. "Bill" Chameides (born November 21, 1949 in New York City) is an American atmospheric scientist who was the dean of Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment from 2007 until July 1, 2014. He is an ISI highly cited researcher, as well as a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Geophysical Union. In December 2013, Chameides announced that he would be stepping down from his position at Duke the following June, saying that he "feels comfortable stepping down now given that he has accomplished many of his initial goals." He was replaced by Alan Townsend on July 1, but remains a member of the Nicholas School faculty.
